Sports law

Sports play an important role in our society. Every week millions of Dutchmen are engaged in sports, as amateurs or professionals. Because various parties are active in sports and due to the own regulations and differing interests of the various associations, conflicts in sports are often complicated. If those structures are not taken into account it is easy to get lost in sports law.

That is why several disciplines are part of our sports law section that has become well-known nationally. Our section consists of experts who are not only on top of the complex structures of sports law, but who are also – thanks to their additional positions in for instance sports governing bodies, sports associations and disciplinary boards – conscious of the special interrelationships in sports. In addition to that the section contributes to the development of sports law by regularly publishing (scientific) articles and books, acting as editors and conducting lectures on this subject, e.g. at Tilburg University and the Sports law programme at the VU.

The section has a broad experience in supporting individual (top) athletes, sport clubs and sports associations on a wide range of questions and problems in the field of sports and law. Our lawyers approach these issues decisively, paying attention to special (sporting) interests. They often manage to work out a solution in consultation with all parties involved. If that does not prove possible we are not afraid to litigate and, like athletes themselves, to go for a win.
